E.A. - Edie- West, Ph.D, Professor Emeritus, is a retired Professor of Nursing (1997- 2024) at Lake Superior Sate University, Sault Ste. Marie, MI (1997- 2006) and Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2006- 2024) ), Indiana, PA (USA). She completed her Ph.D. at Bangor University, Wales, United Kingdom in 2008. Professor West’s research and scholarly interests focus on her passions for nursing ethics, history, public/community health, spiritual and international/ global nursing and human care, and has resulted in professional recognition and solicitation to serve as a reviewer with the Journal of Nurses Christian Fellowship International, the Journal of Nursing Education, Nurse Education in Practice, and International Nursing Review. Dr. West’s research entitled: Care of the Cognitively Impaired Loved-One in the Home: The Lived Experiences of the Caregiver, with Dr Michele Gerwick and Dr. Pat Hockensmith was published as Nursing as Caring: The Lived Experiences of Caregivers for their Cognitively Impaired Loved Ones (2022) in the International Journal for Human Caregiving (IJHC), the official journal of the International Association for Human Caregivers (IAHC), 26:1, 16-30. Dr. West’s most recent achievements include the contribution to a book Chapter (2020) entitled: Ethics and Integrity in Nursing Research’ in the Handbook on Ethics and Integrity in Scientific Research (Editor: Dr. Ron Iphofen) and a book entitled: Frontier Nursing in Appalachia: History, Organization and the Changing Culture of Care (2019) which were published by Springer Nature. A book about her personal journey and spiritual growth as primary caregiver for her late father was published with Wipf and Stock Publishers (2023) and available via Amazon. The title is "Your Path Led Through the Sea." Dr. West is currently working on a new book with the working title "Satisfied Desires in Sun Scorched Places."
